happy christmas from the beach

I do miss the snow, and the evergreens, and the fireplace...but Christmas in San Diego wasn't so bad, either.

when the grey-blue suddenly melts and bursts into deeply saturated pink and gold, and a brush dips into the ocean bleeding purple paint onto the tips of every wave, the browns of the cliffs deepen and the palm trees silhouette into inky black. and you just happen to be there to see it with the one you love, who you usually have to be apart from when the sun sets. that's a good day.

a blanket, a book, a mug of coffee, a sweater, saltwater toes, a big golden sun dropping beneath milky-blue waves. surfers floating on the day's last waves. tiny hands putting the final touches on their wondrous castles. lovers with fingers and lives entwined. families saying goodbye to their summer selves. the world rejoices at the end of another day.

e x p l o r e : secret sea caves

One thing (of many) my boyfriend is really good at is finding new adventure spots that few people know about. Even when it's in my city and it's my turn to find the adventure--he's just so much better at it. Last weekend we raced against the incoming tide to explore this hidden sea cave in Point Loma, and the view was more than worth the wet shoes and (my) fear of the unstable cliffs high above us. There's something beautifully mystical about places where you can only be when the tide is low; it's as if nature is allowing us to see only her beauty but only when she says we may. Just another reminder that man doesn't control the earth, we just live among it.

You know the  Buffalo Exchange Earth Day sale, where everything is one dollar? I always went to the one in Bellingham and it was a bit crowded but fairly calm and organized and I usually got a few good pieces. On Saturday I attempted the San Diego one...and it quite literally turned into a pile of intense women-on-a-mission practically wrestling over a huge pile of clothes. These ladies were not messing around. For fear of getting stepped on, I decided to skip it and go thrifting instead, where the heavens opened up and I found all these perfect spring pieces. And I didn't have to fight anyone for them! Oh, how I love a good thrift haul.

Sunset Cliffs, at sunset, may be my new favorite place in San Diego. And this floral piece from Forever 21 may be my new favorite piece of clothing, even if my boyfriend thought it was a robe at first and I dragged the entire right sleeve through a plate of sushi after taking these photos. My love is unconditional.

With a beautiful beach ten blocks from our front door, it's not hard to stay right in our own neighborhood. But there are so many gorgeous places within & close to San Diego to explore! So in 2014, lots of adventuring in our own neighborhood will commence. Starting with Sunset Cliffs Natural Park, a long gorgeous strip of bluffs & cliffs stretching out over the coast. There are caves etched out by the waves and pristine beaches accessible only by treacherous, steep paths--only taken by surfers and a few other brave souls--and I'm returning for a sunset as soon as possible. 

Cheers to new adventures, right where you are.

hiiiiiiiii.

it's been a while.

my computer, which I bought right before starting my freshman year of college, is officially on it's way to donezo & mostly unusable. which makes blogging a tad difficult (not to mention that any time it does work, I sneak in an episode of Scandal on Netflix, which is my new obsession). but! a little instagram update for you of life lately, including: beach time with my babe, new favorite coffee shop, a day in San Clemente with my sisters + mama, farmers market & downtown SD exploring, little tidbits of our apartment, Christmas vintage, & just your average sunset. 

though living in a new city always has its challenges & hard times, i still look around me in awe and think "i can't believe i live here" almost every day. so cheers to living a life in awe!

COASTING: Lone Flag in Del Mar, CA

This weekend my sister & I got a chance to check out the launch party of Lone Flag, a sweet new lifestyle shop in Del Mar owned by Kelli Murray and her husband. So fun! The shop has mostly men's pieces--anything from jeans to boots to leather goods and everything in-between--but also a few choice pieces for women and the home (that cord light fixture was one of my favorite pieces). If you are in the area, definitely scope out Lone Flag for Christmas gifts for yo man. The place was packed with terribly stylish people, of course. Seriously, people in California are gorgeous. Something in the water (or sun). A great event and, of course, not complete without a few photobooth shots via AmigoBooth!

Since I'm new to the SD area, I'm on the look out for more events like these, bloggers from here, fun places to hit up, etc! Where my SoCal ladies at?
