mountain roads & waterfalls

Fun fact: after hiking down to this secluded waterfall in the middle of nowhere, Oregon, we stumbled upon a pile of fresh bear poop about twenty feet up the trail. So the hike up was pretty fun (I believe we began to sing out loud, in case anyone else in the woods wanted to be alerted of our obnoxious presence). 

From mountain roads to waterfalls to beautiful hills at sunset, minus one soggy night on the coast, Oregon was good to us this trip. It was good for the soul to be back in the woods and rain--I felt a small sense of disappointment when we crossed back in to California. We'll be back. 

my perf day

I think we've officially acclimated to California. 

To continue our tradition of taking a New Years Day adventure, and to search for snow after a few days of blessed rain, we headed up highway 2 until we found our own little winter oasis. And we were so happy. And so cold. We may have gotten a little bit soft in this gorgeous LA climate of ours. Thankfully we had our new blanket from Give Perf, a thoughtful Christmas gift from Evan's sister, which I kept around me at all times. We've been eyeing these blankets on instagram for a while now, and I now cuddle up in it every evening to read or Netflix. We love that they give 15% of profits to charity, too. There's nothing better than a company that considers bettering the world around us to be an integral part of doing business. Except maybe these mountain roads.

If you had told me a year ago that all of this was a 20 minute drive out of LA, I'd never have believed you. Here's to continuously exploring all the beauty right where you are.

finding seasons

when you live in a place with only the very subtlest of seasons, you may just have to drive until it's cold enough to wear a sweater (finally) and there are crunchy leaves on the ground. in this case, that meant a quick 45 minute drive to mount  baldy to spend an evening amidst a little bit of autumn.
