louder than the silence

I'm so proud to be part of a generation that is so readily giving back when it comes to business. Young people using their skills, knowledge, creativity and time to not only make things, but to be responsible and compassionate to a hurting world when it comes to their profits. So many companies built by millennials (though the word makes me cringe) are working this into their business models, and I'm all about supporting these kinds of people however possible.

We met the people behind dprture just a few weeks after moving to LA, and it's been an honor to work with them as they create unique pieces that both represent and fight against issues like human trafficking, clean water, children in need, and more. Check out their website to learn more, and let's support these kinds of business whenever we can!

Original Los Angeles Flower Market

Last weekend, Angela and I woke up early and went to Original Los Angeles Flower Market, which is arguably the absolute best way to spend a Saturday morning in LA. We made a stop for lattes at the beautiful Verve Coffee (succulent walls, gold & white accents, extra dreamy) and then proceeded to spend a slightly excessive amount of money on huge bunches of greenery and flowers wrapped in big slices of newspaper. The next morning, with a big pot of coffee, I laid them all out and slowly arranged them into vases and bottles. It was beautifully therapeutic and may have to be a monthly errand from now on.

photographing the little things

I used to bring my camera everywhere. In college especially, after getting my first little DSLR, my camera was always in my bag or hanging on my shoulder whether I was at a house party or in a park. Somewhere along the way I stopped doing that, choosing to bring the real camera only on roadtrips or adventures or big events. I've felt stifled creatively lately, feeling envious of other people's images; jealous that I don't have anything to photograph. Which is just kind of stupid. I realized that, though it may feel like a hassle, bringing your camera on silly, day-to-day trips is the only way to stay in practice and stay creative. So, my new goal is to get back to photographing life in the small ways - like Sunday trips to the market. Life's good

indy city

Turns out the bohemian goddess that is Angela can also rock an all-black, five panel hat look. Go figure. We wandered around LA & snapped a few photos in this beautiful Indy Brand hat, and I finally got to see the Bates Motel all-white-everythang hotel + palm tree installation. This city is so weird.

I deeply miss the greens of the northwest, but damn, I love the colors of Los Angeles.

DTLA + angela

When VSCO releases a free starter pack the same day you have a photo venture planned with your cute friend...you know it's meant to be. The editing on these is a little bit all over the place, since I was playing around & choosing my favorite settings, but it made the process that much more fun!

Also, the people over at VSCO are genius, because now that I've played with these, I want to buy more packs even more than I already did. And with two big adventure coming up in a few weeks, I may just have to.
