driving to the lost coast was one of the most surreal parts of our trip down the coast. we'd left the northern redwoods that morning, not completely sure of our route, with just our campground on the ocean in mind. in true roadtrip fashion, we discovered halfway through that it would be an extra two hours of driving than I'd originally calculated, meaning we'd get to our campsite at dark. being the worrier I am, I promptly began to fret. BUT. also in true roadtrip fashion, the drive there became the best part and we hit the stunning green hills that preface the lost coast at the most amazing golden hour we'd ever seen. the dark storm clouds clashed with the silky gold sunlight in the most gorgeous way, and we pulled off the curvy country road over, and over again. the timing was impeccable, even finally coming out of the hills to blue ocean right at sunset. us silly humans and our schedules, we're no match for the beauty of the earth.

e x p l o r e : secret sea caves
One thing (of many) my boyfriend is really good at is finding new adventure spots that few people know about. Even when it's in my city and it's my turn to find the adventure--he's just so much better at it. Last weekend we raced against the incoming tide to explore this hidden sea cave in Point Loma, and the view was more than worth the wet shoes and (my) fear of the unstable cliffs high above us. There's something beautifully mystical about places where you can only be when the tide is low; it's as if nature is allowing us to see only her beauty but only when she says we may. Just another reminder that man doesn't control the earth, we just live among it.

postcards from adventure
As much as we love living among the palm trees, sunny days, and ocean waves; we've both been dreaming of our homes in the pacific northwest lately: the people, the culture, the scenery, even the winter chill. A day trip to Mt. Baldy was just the medicine...evergreens, cold, fresh air, a little bit of snow, mountain streams...we even listened to the albums we played on the drive from Seattle to San Diego (Paradise Valley by John Mayer & Mechanical Bull by Kings of Leon), just for an added touch of nostalgia. Getting out the city felt so good--we wanted to bottle up some of that mountain air to take back to the valley with us.
How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace...
