We spent about an hour and a half in San Francisco. We gawked at the colorful & innumerous homes stacked up against each other, walked dreamily around the palace of fine arts, and realized we were on a nude beach about ten minutes in to staring up at that famous bridge (after accidentally driving over it twice, racking up twice the toll charge). We ordered sandwiches from a butcher shop and tried to imagine a life in one of those bright, tiny apartments. Then we made our way out of the city and back onto the coast.

big sur, and things that live up to the hype
big sur is officially on my list of things that live up to all the hype (followed closely by eggs benedict, gingerbread lattes, Harry Potter, and the pacific northwest in general). driving down that pristine coastline after months of stalking instagram for photos, oohing and awwing over the blues and greys clashing, was exactly perfect. getting to McWay Falls right at golden hour? hands-down the best way to finish a week of exploring. our only regret is not actually camping in the area, as we passed several perfect little campgrounds on the bluffs. Good thing we have a whole lot of exploring left in us.

do the boogie all night long
A little video I put together, from Portland to LA. Such a fun way to relive these memories.
p.s. switch it to 1080 HD for the good stuff.

two years coasting // lost coast
driving to the lost coast was one of the most surreal parts of our trip down the coast. we'd left the northern redwoods that morning, not completely sure of our route, with just our campground on the ocean in mind. in true roadtrip fashion, we discovered halfway through that it would be an extra two hours of driving than I'd originally calculated, meaning we'd get to our campsite at dark. being the worrier I am, I promptly began to fret. BUT. also in true roadtrip fashion, the drive there became the best part and we hit the stunning green hills that preface the lost coast at the most amazing golden hour we'd ever seen. the dark storm clouds clashed with the silky gold sunlight in the most gorgeous way, and we pulled off the curvy country road over, and over again. the timing was impeccable, even finally coming out of the hills to blue ocean right at sunset. us silly humans and our schedules, we're no match for the beauty of the earth.

two years coasting // on a monday
this was my monday morning, two weeks ago today. we had driven into the redwoods late at night, in total awe of the dark, mysterious giants in the forest. we set up the tent in the beams of my headlights and went to sleep to the sound of raindrops making their way through the canopy of trees. i could not wait to wake up and see everything in the light--unzipping the tent to look outside felt like opening your bedroom door to see the Christmas tree with presents underneath. we made coffee on the fire and couldn't stop looking up to see how far the branches reached into the skies. everything was wet and dark and gorgeous.
if i can make a life where monday mornings can be like this, i'll be living my dream.
